A clinical study was done on seventeen patients with traumatic spinal cord lesions and neurogenic bladder who were treated at the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Yonsei University College of Medicine, from March 1984 to September 1985.

All patients were investigated with intravenous pyelogram, voiding cystourethrogram(VCUG), and cystometrogram. VCUG showed a large bladder capacity and variable state of the bladder neck during spinal shock and a small or normal bladder capacity and the opening of the bladder neck after spinal shock.

Cystometrograms performed during spinal shock showed detrusor areflexia and variable urethral pressure. On cystometrogram study after spinal shock, the mean vesical pressure during bladder contraction was 106 cmH2O and the bladder capacity was small.
