A Study of the Behavior and Desire of the Parents with Cerebral Palsied Following Home Treatment
Abstract

The parents with cerebral palsied children many difficulties in properly care of them. The purpose of this study was to investigate the difficulties and determine parent's needs.

Those who subjected to this study were the parents of the cerebral palsied children who visited our department from January 1984 to May 1988. Those disabled children ranged in ages from seven months to four years and four months.

The results of the study were as follows:

1) Many parents had a tendency not to believe that their children were disabled. It was one of the problems in the study of cerebral palsied.

2) It was found that 97.9 percent of the families subjects to this study were below the middle income bracket and they spent on and average 22 percent of their monthly income for the medical treatment.

3) 47.9 percent of the parents got the information about necessary treatment and rehabilitation of their children from hospitals. The mass media or educational programs were rarely utilized by the parents in obtaining the information.

4) The general public still lacks and understanding of the disabled children, requiring further enlightenment.

5) What is urgently needed is to set up a specialized medical center where disabled children can receive treatment without worrying about expenses.
