Spinal cord injury without radiographic abnormalities(SCIWORA) is rare in adults. The adult SCIWORA is commonly occurred by hyperextension injury of spondylotic spine which is combined with the stenos is of the spinal canal. The cause of progressive paralysis is spinal instability caused by missed fracture, spinal cord infarction due to minor spinal cord injury, and inadvertent management and so on. In these circumstances, one can confirm the mechanism and severity of injuries by radiographic study. We report a case of spinal cord injured patient who had progressive paralysis through several weeks without definite abnormalities in radiologic studies, such as sequencial MRI. We suggest that the cervical cord injury should be considered in head and neck injuries even if no immediately instability is demonstrated in radiographic studies. |
