Abstract

Evaluating the degree of human body development, methods such as measuring weight, height, chest girth, and sitting height had been generally used. Measuring height is simple, quick and easy method. And there are other methods such as measuring thigh circumference, low leg length, and quadriceps & hamstring torque.

The purpose of this study in to make a comparison and a correlation between torque and physique and to get the normal data of torque. With these results it can be applied as basic material to selection of sport-man in the sports medicine, treatment and evaluation of patient in rehabilitation, and evaluation of the state of postoperated patient of the degree of one's physical handicap.

The subjects of this study were students who were having a normal life & education and who had no past medical pathological history of knee joint, 144 male and 144 female among Korea students, and 203 male and 191 female among Japanese students, in the age of 6 to 17, were selected and examined during November 1987-may 1988.

1) As age increase, thigh circumference, low length, and Quadriceps & Hamstring Torque as well as height & weight increase proportionally.

2) At 5 RPM, the Quadriceps & Hamstring torque of Korean in both sex showed superior than Japanese which mean strength of Korean is higher.

At 30 RPM, Japanese in body sex showed superior than Korean which mean power of Japanese is higher.

3) At 5 RPM, Korean and Japanese H/Q ratio have similar in all age group, but at 30 RPM, H/Q ratio decrease as age increase in Korean.

The H/Q ratio of Korean is higher than that of Japanese in both sex, therefore the Hamstring torque is higher than Quadriceps in Korea.

4) According to the correlation between Quadriceps & Hamstring and physique, Korean & Japanese male showed high value in the order named as below 1) height, 2) weight, 3) age, 4) thing circumference, 5) low leg length.

Krean female; 1) weight, 2) height, 3) age, 4) thigh cicumference, 5) low leg length

Japanese female; 1) weight, 2) height, 3) low leg length, 4) thigh cicumference, 5) age

Key Words: Torque, Quadriceps, Korean, Hamstring, Japanese
